Aibeya The Animation is a one episode OVA that aired in 2019. This single episode is twenty-nine minutes long. It was adapted from the visual novel Aibeya: Osananajimi no Ie de, Honto no Koi wo Shiru Tame no Dousei Seikatsu.
Kouta Kazama parents go overseas leaving him to a house undergoing a renovation. He ends up staying with his neighbor, Aki Hayama, and sharing a room with her. They were childhood friends and used to be very close. But as a man and woman sleeping in the same bed, they might not take very long to express their feelings.
The plot of Aibeya The Animation is nothing special. But it’s charm comes from it’s self-awareness of the genre it chooses to occupy. To begin with, in a chibi-styled way, it conjures a comical tone. We are brought up to speed with the situation the guy finds himself in. Conveniently, his next door neighbor and childhood friend accommodate him. They inevitably end up entangled in each others’ lives and bodies. Aibeya, like Aikagi, wastes no time getting to the confession scene. Instead of having our character tiptoe around the elephant in the room, we instantly get to see this relationship blossom. Which is an absolute necessity for a one episode hanime.
